Live I Erkitíð 2020 I Instrumentalists compose music
Because of restricitons in Iceland, due to covid19, Erkitíð 2020 took place online.
The highlight of ErkiTíð 2020 was Saturday 18 March, which was the String Quartet's concert SIGGI, where four new works commissioned by ErkiTíð 2020 were premiered.
The string quartet's repertoire included the premiere of four new compositions composed by three instrumentalists and a composer. Three of Iceland's leading instrumentalists performed and composed music for string quartet after their own heads: violinist Una Sveinbjarnardóttir, pianist Tinna Þorsteinsdóttir and guitarist Pétur Jónasson.
What they all have in common is that they have performed and premiered countless new compositions over the years. They all used the composition program CalmusComposer to create the works, but the program is based on e.g. on artificial intelligence that opens up the possibility of a new approach to music creation.
In addition to the instrumentalists, the film composer Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson took part in the concert, but he uses similar techniques in composing his work.
