Music, science and technology meet at an Icelandic computer and electronic music festival -
on the 80th anniversary of the Republic of Iceland and the 30th anniversary of ErkiTíðar
Preparations for ErkiTíð 2024 are in full swing and will be held in Reykjavík on November 16-17. The main theme of ErkiTíð 2024 on the 30th anniversary of ErkiTíð will be "generations". On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Republic of Iceland, the festival will present generations of Icelandic composers during this period, with many of the pioneers of modern and electronic music in Iceland - along with musicians working today - spanning almost 80 years of Icelandic musical history.
The ErkiTíð music festival is a platform for creativity and expression in music using new technology and opens a vision into the future, with a strong focus on the works of pioneers of Icelandic computer and electronic music.
ErkiTíð has always placed the greatest emphasis on Icelandic electronic music and innovation in that field. It was first held in 1994 on the occasion of the Republic Day of Iceland, where all the major electronic and computer compositions by Icelandic composers from the beginning were performed.
Over the years, dozens of new Icelandic compositions have been composed and premiered for ErkiTíðar.
This year's festival will focus on real-time music creation using new methods and new instruments with the help of artificial intelligence - offering the unexpected in real-time music creation in live performance.
The ErkiTíð music festival is open to everyone, regardless of gender, age or origin. One of the main goals has been to connect the past, present and future. Another important aspect of ErkiTíð is innovation in the field of music, where the boundaries between art forms are often blurred and which creates a more diverse culture.
With its diversity, ErkiTíð enhances the culture and human life of Iceland and contributes to a more colorful cultural life each time.
